In the second video when they are dragging the car to the wrecker by it's left rear wheel (WTF? Seriously, WTF??) you can see that the spoiler is fully raised so, it's in 500hp mode. If the car was in 1001 hp mode, the spoiler would have been at half staff to reduce drag.

Doesn't the car hunker down when the wing goes down? That could be why he put the wing up to raise the car a bit so they could get under it.

The Veyron has two modes. Haul ass and really haul ass. In really haul ass mode, the car drops down a touch and the wing goes to half-staff. To put it into that mode you have to be parked and use the key beside the driver's seat.

Search Youtube for Veyron and look for the video where they take it up to it's speed limiter. I think it's 253MPH. That video explains what the modes are.

Regardless of whether he had it in 500hp mode or 1001hp mode, he forgot to put it in submergence mode.

If you read up some more, it turns out that the driver deals in rebuilding and sellign wrecked exotics. I don't think he drove the car into the lagoon due to dropping his cell or the invisible pelican. I think he is trying to get a nice fat paycheck from the insurance company.
